Role Overview
As Sr. Director Finance, you will build the finance organization for a scaling biotech. You will be responsible for implementing accounting policies, overseeing budget and forecasting cycles, leading IFRS conversion, managing company valuation and cap table, and building in-house finance capabilities. You will also oversee the selection and implementation of an ERP system, ensuring the finance function is ready for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Finance Organization Building: Design and scale the finance team, processes, and controls to support rapid growth
- Budget and forecasting: Responsible for the budget, forecasting and reporting cycles together with the broader finance team
- Accounting & Compliance: Oversee the audit process, develop and implement accounting policies, ensure compliance with Dutch/EU regulations, IFRS, and/or US GAAP standards
- IFRS Conversion: Lead the transition from local GAAP to IFRS, including process redesign andstakeholder management
- Valuation & Cap Table Management: Oversee company valuation processes and maintain accurate, up-to-date cap table records
- ERP Implementation: Select and implement a modern ERP system to support finance operations, reporting, and compliance
- Stakeholder Management: Partner with executive leadership, investors, and external advisors
What We’re Looking For
Experience:
- 10+ years in finance leadership roles, including experience in biotech or life sciences scale-ups
- Big 4 accounting firm background (audit or advisory) or equivalent transaction-heavy background preferred
- Proven track record in accounting standard conversion and ERP implementation
- Experience supporting fundraising and strategic transactions is a plus
Skills:
- Strategic and hands-on leadership style
- Strong project management and change management capabilities
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder influence skills
- High integrity and attention to detail
Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of IFRS, Dutch/EU accounting standards, and compliance
- Familiarity with biotech sector dynamics, valuation, and cap table management
- Experience with ERP systems (selection, implementation, optimization)
- Experience with US GAAP is a plus
